Trainees a healthy addition to the team

15 August, 2018

Goulburn Valley Health (GV Health), the Hume region’s primary health service provider, has been working with MEGT to strengthen their workforce through the development of a traineeship program.

First approaching MEGT in late 2015, GV Health knew they wanted to recruit Health Services Assistant trainees – but didn’t where to start!

With MEGT Apprenticeships Field Consultant Debbie Parish and Contact Officer Suzan Albanoi on the job, GV Health were provided with the information and support they needed to start trainee recruitment.

Once the process had begun, MEGT were on hand to complete pre-eligibility checks on the candidates and sign up the first ten successful job seekers into February 2016’s program, which would see them work towards a Certificate III in Health Services Assistant with GOTAFE.

Fast forward two years and GV Health’s traineeship program is thriving. Since the pilot year in 2016, MEGT has helped to recruit and sign up 20 Health Services Assistant trainees for GV Health – with 15 completing the program and earning a nationally recognised qualification with GOTAFE. 7 of these trainees also stayed on with GV Health as full-time employees!

With GV Health busy preparing for the 2018-2019 intake of trainees, MEGT is proud to be involved in the trainees’ success and look forward to continuing to support employment and training opportunities in the local community.
