Payroll tax rebate extended to support Tasmanian jobs

The Tasmanian Government has announced a $22 million investment in jobs for apprentices, trainees and younger employees as part of its’ COVID-19 economic recovery.

The measures include extending the payroll tax rebate for all youth employees for a further 18 months, and extending by an extra 12 months for all apprentices and trainees. Both rebates will now apply to all industry sectors.

The Targeted Apprentice and Trainee Grant for Small Business will also be extended to any small business which employs an apprentice or trainee between January 1st 2021 and June 30th 2022.

Legislation for all measures will be introduced to the Tasmanian Parliament, before being officially announced in the state budget on November 12th 2020.

The initiatives will apply to 4,000 new apprentices and trainees, and help ensure a reliable supply of skilled young people in future.
