Champion bowler puts a new spin on Australian Apprenticeships

24 August, 2017

International cricketer Nathan Lyon has stepped off the pitch and into the spotlight as the newest Australian Apprenticeships Ambassador.

Nathan places very high value on apprenticeships, after undertaking his own Australian Apprenticeship in Horticulture (Turf) after leaving school and while advancing his promising junior cricket career.

Now as Australia's greatest ever off spinner, Nathan is held in very high regard by his peers and coaches. He is now a role model for young cricketers, mentoring and aiding their cricketing and personal development skills, making him the perfect choice as the Australian Apprenticeship Support Network’s newest Apprenticeships Ambassador.

"I’m very lucky that through my green keeping apprenticeship a few different alley ways have opened up, and I’ve been able to jump off the apprenticeship bandwagon through my cricket career but I’m very grateful for the Australian Apprenticeship,” said Nathan.

"My one piece of advice to all apprentices out there is to stick it through, because there's obviously different venues, different opportunities that's going to open up once you get your certificate."
