Industry update – free apprenticeships and traineeships for under 21s in QLD

The Queensland Government has just announced a new subsidised training initiative, which will offer free apprenticeships and traineeships in Queensland to anyone under the age of 21 across 139 priority qualifications.

The initiative will take away the cost of training from employers and aims to help an estimated 60,000 young people into a trade.

    Who is eligible?

    To be eligible for free Australian Apprenticeships within Queensland you must be an employer signing-up an apprentice or trainee under the following criteria, or a jobseeker who meets the following criteria:

    • under the age of 21
    • employed as an apprentice or trainee under a Training Contract on or after 1 July 2019
    • enrolled in one of the 139 priority qualifications

    What qualifications are available?

    The fully subsided training will be offered across 139 apprenticeship and traineeships qualifications in industries showing a high demand for works including:

    • Electrical
    • Plumbing
    • Engineering
    • Healthcare
    • Beauty and hairdressing
    • Automotive
    • Early childhood education
    • And many more!
