Small business in Tasmania to benefit from apprentice/trainee grant

14 January, 2021

Small business owners in Tasmania will benefit from the introduction of new financial incentives to encourage the signing up of apprentices and trainees.

The Apprentice and Trainee Grant for Small Business provides a subsidy of up to $5,000 for each new apprentice or trainee who is signed up from January 1st 2021.

The program replaces the Targeted Apprentice and Trainee Grant for Small Business, and is only available for businesses which do not qualify for the existing Payroll Tax Rebate Scheme.

The Payroll Tax Rebate Scheme was introduced for apprentices and trainees employed in the building, construction, tourism, hospitality and manufacturing industries from July 1st 2019 to June 30th 2022.

Employers in other industries may be eligible to apply for the scheme for apprentices or trainees employed from January 1st 2021 until June 30th 2022.
