We have a position available for an apprentice cook to complete a Certificate III in Commercial Cookery.

At The Victoria Hotel Woodend, we take pride in creating most of our menu items from scratch. As an apprentice chef, you'll have the chance to work alongside experienced professionals and have the opportunity to learn all aspects of our seasonal menus.

This apprenticeship offers a great learning opportunity. You'll gain hands-on experience in various aspects of the kitchen from preparation to service. Our knowledgeable staff will guide and mentor you, helping you develop essential skills that will set you up for success in your future career.

Our kitchen works at a fast pace and work schedules will include weekends. 

You will need to be passionate about food, career driven and a team player. Training for an apprentice cook covers basic culinary skills, knife skills, knowledge of ingredients, use of commercial equipment and kitchen procedures. 

Your main duties include but not limited to: 

  • Assisting the chef in the preparation and cooking of meals 
  • Training to learn procedures and duties in food preparation 
  • Working under the supervision of the chef 
  • Operating commercial cooking equipment such as mixers, steamers, fryers, ovens and stoves 
  • Serves food when required 
  • Kitchen cleaning, such as dish washing and equipment cleaning, sanitation 
  • Assists in other areas of food preparation and storage
