Important information for TAS employers

Paying apprentices and trainees? Don’t forget to claim your payroll tax rebate!

If your business…

  • Pays payroll tax, and
  • Employs eligible apprentices or trainees between 1 July 2017 and 30 June 2021

…you may be able to claim rebates under the Tasmanian Government’s Payroll Tax Rebate Scheme!

Introduced as part of the 2017-18 State Budget, the Scheme provides eligible employers with either:

  • The total payroll tax paid in the relevant financial year; or
  • The total payroll tax paid for eligible employee wages in the relevant financial year, whichever is less

You may also be eligible for further Government financial incentives that are available to employers who sign up apprentices or trainees.

Between the period 1 July 2019 and 30 June 2021, the rebate will be available for businesses that employ apprentices and trainees in the following industries:

  • Building and construction;
  • Tourism and hospitality; and
  • Manufacturing
