Contractors and sub-contractors working on WA State Government building projects are required to employ a minimum number of apprentices, trainees or engineering cadets, thanks to the State Government Building Training Policy.
What is the Government Building Training Policy?
The policy requires all State Government building, construction and maintenance contractors and sub-contractors to ensure 11.5% of their workforce consists of apprentices or trainees.
The aim of the policy is to increase the overall numbers of apprentices and trainees in the building and construction industry in WA.
Who does the policy apply to?
The policy applies to all State Government contracts for:
- building and construction, including civil and engineering, with an estimated labour value of $2 million and above (for the construction component of the contract); and
- maintenance, with an estimated labour value of $2 million and above for the total contract
The policy does not apply when the duration of the contract is three months or less.
