Byron Shire Council is recruiting now for a Trainee role to start after the financial year 2025 where you can obtain your Certificate III in Civil Construction (Road Construction & Maintenance).

We are looking for:

A motivated and enthusiastic Certificate III in Civil Construction Trainee to assist in the operation and maintenance of Council’s assets in a proper and efficient manner and to complete academic requirements of the traineeship. 

About you: 

  • Literacy and numeracy skills equivalent to completion of Year 10.
  • Demonstrated ability and commitment to undertaking and completing the study component of the traineeship.
  • Demonstrated good communication skills with the ability to work as an effective team member to achieve outcomes.
  • Current Drivers Licence or eligibility to obtain a licence.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy.
  • Demonstrated aptitude or strong interest in civil construction operations (preferred).

We offer: 

  • Full-time, term employment for the duration of your traineeship - up to 2 years (38 hours per week/9 day fortnight).
  • Salary and Conditions will be in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award with an appointment at a salary in the range of $398.70 to $809.70 per 38 hour week (dependent upon age and level of schooling attained).

Traineeships combine work-based training with an employer and formal training from a training provider.

Location:

This position is based at Byron Depot, however Council can require you to work from other work sites as required for operational reasons.

  • Background Screening: Background checks verify the information you have provided in your application, and where applicable, also check for relevant criminal history. Checks may also include, for example, a confirmation of your employment history, qualifications/tickets and working with children clearance.
