Are you a people person? Byron Shire Council have a fantastic opportunity for someone who loves working with people, enjoys administration is very organised and looking to start their Human Resources (HR) career in a fast-paced, hands-on role where no two days are the same. Throughout your 12-month Traineeship you will develop extensive knowledge and practical HR experience and play a vital role in supporting our HR functions such as recruitment, induction and onboarding, employee records, while contributing to the long-term success of the organisation.

This full-time traineeship combines practical experience with structured training, setting you up for a rewarding career within Human Resources. Byron Shire Council is recruiting for a Trainee who is ready to start their HR Career after July 2025.

What we require from you to be successful:

  • Prior completion of Higher School Certificate or demonstrated literacy and numeracy skills required to complete the academic requirements of the traineeship.

  • Genuine interest in Human Resources and a commitment to the requirements of the traineeship.

  • Previous experience in an office and / or administration support role

  • Demonstrated computer literacy and keyboard skills with basic knowledge in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Internet. 

  • Proven ability to participate as an effective team member and complete tasks on time.

  • Sound organisation skills and ability to plan and prioritise multiple projects while consistently meeting agreed timeframes.

  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and ability to maintain confidentiality and use discretion in handling sensitive information

We offer: 

  • Full-time, term employment for the duration of your traineeship - up to 1 year (35 hours per week).

  • Salary and Conditions will be in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award with an appointment at a salary in the range of $398.70 to $809.70 per 35-hour week (dependent upon age and level of schooling attained).

Location: This position is based in Mullumbimby, however Council can require you to work from other work sites as required for operational reasons.
