MEGT Marketing - Copywriter and Communications Manager

Objectives of the Division:

The objective of the Office of CEO is to provide high level, effective and efficient support to the CEO; and Corporate department; and Divisions.

 

The primary objective of the Marketing Department is to position MEGT as a preferred provider of employment, training, education and workforce skills.


 

Objectives of the Position: 

The Copywriter and Communications Manager is a key role within MEGT (Australia) Ltd. The primary focus of this role is: 

  • Copywriting

  • Corporate and internal communications

  • External public relations and media monitoring

  • Social/digital community management.


 

Relationships:

This role reports directly to the National Marketing Manager and has a close working relationship with other Marketing Department team members.

 

As an in-house, shared support service, it is essential to have good working relationships with MEGT’s Executive Team, managers and staff. As the external voice of MEGT, it is also crucial to build and maintain positive relationships with external customers, prospective clients, community, competitors, peers, and other industry stakeholders.

Selection Criteria:

  • excellent copywriting and research skills

  • excellent communication skills and understanding of English language and grammar

  • experience in the development of written content to achieve business objectives including the ability to adapt message and tone to target audiences, edit the work of others, and convey complex policies, topics and service offerings in easy-to-understand language

  • experience interpreting and communicating Government and industrial relations policies and working within Government and industrial relations compliance guidelines

  • experience with the development and execution of Corporate/Internal communication strategies

  • experience in the management of Intranet content and the development of marketing and communication policies

  • expertise in social media management and engagement, including demonstrated experience with Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn, YouTube, Twitter and Instagram

  • experience in the use of social media scheduling platforms (e.g. Hootsuite, Sprout Social, etc.)

  • experience in reputation management, media monitoring and building relationships with various media outlets and industry bodies

  • a Bachelor degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism or Communications will be highly regarded.


 

Qualifications, Skills and Attributes:

  • understanding of content marketing tactics, such as SEO, digital and traditional advertising, and social media marketing

  • experience in the development of written content to achieve business objectives including the ability to adapt message and tone to target audiences, to edit the work of others, and to convey complex policies, topics and service offerings in easy-to-understand language

  • ability to work confidently alongside, and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of key stakeholders

  • understanding of MEGT’s business operations and organisational strategies and goals

  • sound organisation and time management skills including the ability to multi-task and prioritise

  • driven, self-motivated and works well autonomously and within a team

  • two+ years of experience in Content Marketing and/or Copywriting and social media managment

  • ability to act with diplomacy and discretion when dealing with sensitive and confidential issues

  • proficiency in all major business software applications (e.g. Microsoft Office).


 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • in conjunction with the National Marketing Manager and the Brand and Campaign Manager, develop, implement and deliver comprehensive external content marketing strategies including multi-channel distribution plans that align with corporate objectives and drive brand awareness and engagement

  • in conjunction with the National Marketing Manager and Executive Team, develop, implement and deliver a comprehensive and strategic internal communications strategy to increase employee engagement through effective, positive and consistent internal communications

  • develop standards, systems and best practices for managing the content life cycle including creation, distribution, maintenance, retrieval and repurposing, retiring, and analysis

  • develop and manage MEGT’s brand “voice”, ensuring all content is on-brand, consistent in style, quality and tone, and optimised for search and user experience across all channels including digital, social media, email, video, radio, print advertising and collateral

  • collaborate with Marketing Team members, MEGT Executive Team members and other key internal and external stakeholders to identify and action content needs and opportunities

  • write compelling campaign copy in line with campaign brief, deadline and goals

  • report on content and social outcomes, gathering data and analytics, presenting insights and making recommedations based on those results

  • keep informed of Government policy or funding updates, industrial relations requirements and any other information relating to the Vocational Education and Training sector, and action or escalate content and/or campaign opportunities accordingly

  • participate, as directed, as an informed and effective member of the crisis communications team source and action editorial opportunities, write press releases, act as media liaison and actively nurture and maintain effective media networks 

  • undertake independent research where relevant to add value to campaign briefs and content

  • assist in the development of marketing and communications policies and procedures

  • monitor external and social media for news relating to the company

  • monitor external media for news relating to the Vocational Education and Training sector and forward leads to relevant business units when identified.

Key Performance Indicators:

1. Copywriting

  • All campaign requirements and deadlines met in line with MEGT’s brand voice, business objectives, communication strategies and content plans

  • Deliver current and accurate copywriting content by:

    • providing proofreading and editing support where required

    • keeping abreast of industry activities, sector challenges, policy and reform

  • Customer satisfaction of campaign briefs.

 

2. Social Media

  • Deliver a consistent and positive presence on MEGT’s social media

  • MEGT’s online communities are managed in line with communication strategies

 

3. Corporate and internal communications

  • All internal communications strategies, content and deadlines including the weekly Kickstart, quarterly Exec Connect eNewsletters and content on the MEGT intranet, MEGT connect, are met to a high standard. 

 

4. External public relations and media monitoring

  • Maximise opportunities for positive public relations daily

  • Minimise the impact of negative media attention within 24 hours

  • Action all identified leads to the relevant business unit within 24 hours

  • Communications and PR support provided to all business units

  • Speech writing, presentations and PR for organisational and special events (internal and external) are provided on schedule and as needed.
