Full-time Apprenticeship – Certificate III in Parks & Gardens
Definition Landscape & Design is a Brisbane-based, award-winning landscape design, construction and maintenance business specialising predominantly in high-end residential landscapes.
We’re looking for an Apprentice to join our growing maintenance team and complete a Certificate III in Parks & Gardens.
About the Role
This is a full-time apprenticeship combining hands-on experience with formal training and the opportunity to develop a broad range of practical horticultural skills.
Many of the properties we maintain are landscapes our team originally designed and constructed. Our maintenance work is therefore less about high-volume mowing and basic garden maintenance, and more about caring for established residential landscapes to a high standard.
You’ll gain experience across areas including:
- Lawn care, mowing and lawn renovations
- Plant pruning and hedging
- Plant health management
- Pest and disease identification and treatment
- Weed identification and management
- Irrigation maintenance and troubleshooting
- Garden lighting maintenance
- Fertilising and soil improvement
- Mulching and planting
- General garden presentation
- Smaller landscape improvements and projects
You’ll work alongside experienced team members while completing your formal apprenticeship training, gradually developing the skills and knowledge to take greater ownership of the gardens you maintain.
About You
We’re not expecting you to already have a horticultural qualification or years of landscaping experience. Previous gardening, landscaping or other outdoor/manual work is helpful, but it isn’t essential.
More importantly, we’re looking for someone who:
- Genuinely wants to learn horticulture and build a career in the industry
- Enjoys working outdoors and is comfortable with physical work
- Is reliable, punctual and willing to commit to a full-time apprenticeship
- Takes pride in their work and pays attention to detail
- Can follow instructions and work effectively as part of a small team
- Is willing to learn and take on greater responsibility as their skills develop
- Holds a current driver’s licence, or is working towards obtaining one
- Holds a White Card, or is willing to obtain one
Pay & Entitlements
We recognise that committing to an apprenticeship is a significant decision, and our intention is to pay above the applicable apprentice award rate and reward someone who is committed to learning and developing within our business.
As a guide, our proposed starting rates are:
- Recent School leaver / new starter apprentice – approximately $19.50 per hour
- Mature-age apprentice – approximately $28.50 per hour
These are full-time hourly rates, with normal employment entitlements provided in addition, including superannuation, paid annual leave, personal leave, applicable overtime rates and leave loading.
The above rates are a guide to our starting rates. We’re also happy to recognise relevant experience, skills or practical knowledge, with the potential for a higher starting rate where appropriate.
We also provide the required Definition work uniforms and work boots.
What We Offer
- A full-time apprenticeship and recognised horticultural qualification
- Above-award starting wages
- Hands-on training from experienced landscape professionals
- Exposure to high-quality residential gardens and landscapes
- A varied role covering much more than basic mowing and garden maintenance
- Opportunities to develop your skills and take on greater responsibility
- A supportive, relatively small team environment
- Genuine opportunity to build a longer-term career within Definition Landscape & Design
