Strengthening support through Mental Health First Aid training
Supporting apprentices and trainees goes beyond workplace skills and qualifications — it also means recognising the importance of wellbeing, confidence and mental health throughout the training journey.
As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting safe workplaces and providing comprehensive ongoing care and coaching, members of our Recruitment and Management Services team recently completed accredited Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Australia training.
The program focused on developing practical skills and awareness around common mental health challenges, crisis situations and workplace wellbeing. It also explored how to confidently approach conversations around mental health and provide reassurance and guidance in a safe, supportive and evidence-based way.
For apprentices and trainees, balancing work, study and personal commitments can sometimes become overwhelming. Early support and intervention can play a critical role in helping individuals remain engaged, build resilience and successfully complete their training. The training has given our team greater confidence to recognise the signs of mental health challenges, engage in meaningful conversations and help individuals access professional support when needed.
Importantly, the benefits extend beyond apprentices and trainees. Many employers want to support their workers but may be unsure how to respond when someone is experiencing difficulties. Mental Health First Aid training equips our team to provide an additional layer of guidance and support, helping employers navigate these situations while fostering positive workplace cultures.
Business Development Manager, Tara, said the experience provided valuable practical skills that can be applied across both professional and personal settings.
“It has strengthened my self-awareness and ability to recognise early warning signs, respond appropriately, and encourage support pathways in the workplace.
“I believe this training is extremely valuable for anyone working in people-focused roles and has had a positive impact on both my personal and professional development.”
By continuing to invest in training and development for our teams, MEGT is strengthening the support network available to apprentices, trainees and employers. The result is safer workplaces, improved wellbeing outcomes and stronger pathways to successful apprenticeship and traineeship completions.
