General Info Stories from the Field

MEGT has officially opened its new Adelaide office, marking a significant milestone in its long standing commitment to supporting skills, training and workforce development across South Australia.

The Hon. Lucy Hood MP, South Australian Minister for Education, Training and Skills, joined MEGT CEO Matthew Hick, South Australian Skills Commissioner Cameron Baker, Defence SA’s Director Maritime Mel Slater, industry partners and stakeholders to formally open the new site at 115 Grenfell Street in the heart of the Adelaide CBD.

Speaking at the event, Mr Hick said the opening represents more than a new workplace. It reflects nearly two decades of sustained investment in South Australia’s workforce.

“Today we’re celebrating the opening of a new office, but we’re also celebrating a long-term commitment to South Australia,” he said.

“Since 2006, we’ve supported more than 110,000 South Australians into apprenticeships and traineeships. MEGT’s Group Training Organisation (GTO) has worked with more than 1,000 of those Australians who have built careers and changed their lives.”

Mr Hick also highlighted how MEGT’s GTO supports both employers and apprentices by simplifying hiring, training and workforce participation.

“As a GTO, we sit at the heart of the relationship between employers and apprentices and trainees,” he said.

“Our services remove complexity and provide practical workforce solutions, tailored to the needs of each business. This new office has been designed to support that work, right here in the centre of Adelaide.”

Supporting South Australia’s future workforce

In her address, Minister Hood highlighted the scale of economic transformation underway in South Australia and the growing demand for skilled workers. She emphasised the importance of workforce development in enabling major state projects and economic growth, noting the need to connect individuals with training and employment opportunities.

“In this environment, pathways to sustainable careers are more important than ever. That’s where MEGT comes in,” she said. “This new facility is a sign of the confidence you have in South Australia.”

Minister Hood also acknowledged MEGT’s long standing contribution and the impact of its work over nearly two decades. In particular, she highlighted the important role of Group Training Organisations in the South Australian training system.

“GTOs are going to play a crucial role in supporting workforce growth. South Australia has the highest GTO market share in the nation, employing around 19 percent of all active apprentices and trainees in this state,” Minister Hood said.

Following the speeches, Minister Hood cut the ribbon to formally open the new office, marking the next chapter of MEGT’s presence in South Australia.

Mr Hick said MEGT looks forward to continuing to work closely with government and industry partners to grow skills, create opportunities and support economic development across South Australia.

“We’re proud of the role we’ve played to date,” he said, “and we’re excited about what comes next.”
