General Info

MEGT and Workways Australia recently welcomed Queensland Deputy Opposition Leader and Member for Woodridge the Hon. Cameron Dick MP to the Woodridge site, providing an on-the-ground look at how locally delivered employment support is helping people overcome barriers and move into sustainable jobs.

As part of the MEGT Group, Workways Australia plays a key role in delivering community-based employment services by connecting participants with training, support and real job opportunities across the Logan region.

The visit brought together MEGT and Workways Australia staff and employer partners, showcasing the practical work underway to support people into employment.

A tailored approach to employment

A central focus of the visit was Workways Australia’s commitment to long-term outcomes.

Rather than placing people into roles prematurely, the approach centres on identifying and addressing individual barriers to ensure participants are ready for work and able to sustain employment.

Through tailored support, training opportunities and confidence-building, Workways Australia helps individuals take meaningful steps toward the workforce.

Connecting people to real jobs

The strength of employer partnerships across the MEGT network was a key highlight.

Rail training partners demonstrated how structured programs are preparing participants for entry-level roles while building a pipeline of skilled workers to support future infrastructure projects.

At the same time, local employer Teys Australia shared how they are working closely with Workways to recruit new staff. This collaboration offers entry-level roles with no prior experience required, supported by on-the-job training and clear progression pathways.

Building confidence and capability

Programs delivered at Woodridge support a diverse cohort, including people facing language barriers or limited work experience.

This includes initiatives like the CALD Women’s Pathways to Work Program, which supports women from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds to build confidence, improve English skills and better understand workplace expectations in Australia.

By creating a supportive and practical learning environment, participants are able to develop essential job readiness skills before entering employment, supporting more sustainable outcomes.

This community-based approach reflects the broader MEGT Group focus on supporting individuals at every stage of their employment journey.

Shaping future workforce opportunities

During the visit, Mr Dick met with staff and partners to better understand workforce challenges and opportunities.

With major projects on the horizon, discussions highlighted the importance of building and sustaining a skilled workforce, and the role organisations like MEGT and Workways Australia play in connecting people with those opportunities.

Working together for better outcomes

The visit reinforced the value of collaboration between employment services, industry and policy makers.

Through the combined strength of MEGT and Workways Australia, individuals are being supported into meaningful employment, while employers gain access to job-ready candidates.
