Apprentices and Trainees Diversity

At just 21, Kane Haslam is weeks away from completing his carpentry apprenticeship and already making a name for himself in the trade.

Based in Gympie, Kane is known on site for his quiet determination, precision, and steady reliability. Completing his Certificate III in Carpentry training through Realistic Training Options, he’s on the brink of a major milestone in a journey that began straight out of high school.

“It’s been a solid few years,” Kane reflects. “You learn a lot about yourself on the tools. Early on, it felt like a big climb, but I stuck with it. Looking back, I’m proud of how far I’ve come.”

While Kane’s technical skills are impressive, it’s his work ethic and leadership potential that have stood out to his mentors. From day one, he’s brought a willingness to learn and a calm presence that lifts those around him.

With qualification just ahead, Kane is already planning his next steps, expanding his experience across residential and small commercial projects and eventually mentoring younger apprentices.

For Kane, carpentry is more than a trade, it’s a calling. It’s a connection that runs deep, shaped not just by his own drive but by the quiet influence of his late father, Noel Haslam.

Noel was among the Gympie and Noosa region’s most respected carpenters, admired not just for his craftsmanship but for the way he carried himself. His legacy was more than buildings, it was pride, purpose, and the value of doing a job well.

Kane’s journey is proof that an apprenticeship can be more than a qualification, it can build confidence, culture, and community. At MEGT, we’re proud to support the next generation of tradespeople shaping their futures, one project at a time.
