Celebrating National Careers Week
This year, National Careers Week provided an opportunity to celebrate the many pathways available to Australians and highlight the real outcomes that come from
apprenticeships and traineeships.
Recent NCVER data shows that 94.8% of trade completers and 89.2% of non-trade completers were employed after finishing their apprenticeship or
traineeship, reinforcing the value of vocational pathways in delivering real employment and long-term career opportunities.
Successfully transitioning into the workforce takes more than technical training. It’s about having the right support to stay the course, build confidence and successfully step into a career.
Throughout the week, we showcased how MEGT supports apprentices from the moment they begin considering an apprenticeship or traineeship right through to
completing their qualification. This includes:
- Rethinking how we ask young people about their future, with prompts that build curiosity and confidence
- Challenging phrases that can unintentionally shut down career exploration and offering more supportive alternatives
- Showcasing how mentoring and tailored support helps apprentices navigate challenges, build confidence and plan for long-term career success
- Highlighting real stories, like Maddy’s journey of changing careers and finding a pathway that better suited to her goals
By continuing to invest in support, challenge perceptions and promote the value of vocational careers, more Australians can discover pathways that lead to meaningful, long-term employment.
