MEGT launches four major Queensland training programs to address critical workforce shortages.

MEGT will support more than 100 Queenslanders into meaningful and in demand careers through four new Skilling Queenslanders for Work (SQW) programs commencing from April to June 2026. The programs target critical workforce gaps across healthcare, laboratory operations, construction, conservation and the transport sector.

The four programs – LabSkills in Brisbane, Medical Mob in Brisbane, Painting and Landscaping Futures IV in Townsville, and Car2Bus across South East Queensland – have been designed with strong employer involvement, industry aligned training and MEGT's proven wraparound support model to maximise employment outcomes.

Program Overview

LabSkills – Metropolitan Brisbane (April 2026)
Trains 30 women and disadvantaged Queenslanders for careers in STEM through the Certificate III in Laboratory Skills, supporting industries such as pathology, materials testing and environmental monitoring.

Medical Mob – Brisbane (May 2026)
Supports 16 young people, including First Nations youth, into healthcare administration roles via paid traineeships and a Certificate I in Workplace Skills, with experience gained across Humanity Health Group’s 11 business units.

Painting and Landscaping Futures IV – Townsville (April 2026)
Through two intakes, engages 16 First Nations participants in Certificate I in Construction (8 per intake) or Certificate I in Conservation (8 per intake), through hands on revitalisation work on Indigenous community housing.

Car2Bus – South East Queensland (June 2026)
Provides 45 participants with the Certificate III in Driving Operations and their Medium Rigid licence. The program helps address Queensland’s urgent bus and truck driver shortages and supports workforce readiness ahead of Brisbane 2032.

This training is proudly funded by the Queensland Government through its Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiative.

Matthew Hicks, CEO of MEGT, says: "Queensland employers are calling for skilled, work ready talent and these programs deliver exactly what they need.

"By designing training with industry and focusing on real world experience, MEGT ensures participants build the confidence, qualifications and capability needed to step straight into meaningful longterm employment.

"These programs not only create opportunities for participants, they give employers access to skilled workers at a time of genuine shortage. This is how MEGT contributes to stronger industries, stronger communities and stronger futures for Queensland."
