Virtue Projects has an opportunity for a 3rd Year Apprentice Carpenter to join our team. 

We specialise in luxury builds for the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney.

Position Overview

The 3rd Year Apprentice Carpenter works under the direct supervision of the Site Foreman, actively contributing to the day-to-day operations of the job site. At this stage of the apprenticeship, the individual is expected to demonstrate increasing independence, confidence with trade skills, and a strong commitment to quality, safety, and professional development. This role is an important step toward completing a Certificate III in Carpentry.

Your Role

As a 3rd year apprentice, you are expected to work with greater autonomy on standard carpentry tasks while continuing to learn and seek guidance on more complex work. You will take direction from the Site Foreman and assist across all stages of the build as required.

Trade Skills & Carpentry Tasks

  • Carry out framing, formwork, fixing, and finishing carpentry tasks to a high standard under supervision
  • Read and interpret construction plans, drawings, and specifications with increasing confidence
  • Measure, cut, and install structural and finish timber elements, including frames, flooring, decking, and joinery
  • Assist with the installation of doors, windows, and associated hardware
  • Assist tradespeople and subcontractors with minor details such as heights, wall thicknesses, tile finishes, and vanity heights as directed by the Leading Hand
  • Perform tasks to manufacturer specifications and relevant Australian Standards
  • Progressively build skills toward completing all competencies required for Certificate III in Carpentry

Site Responsibilities

  • Assist with maintaining a clean, safe, and organised worksite at all times
  • Support the Site Foreman with general site tasks, including bin changeovers, opening/closing site gates, and keeping driveways and surrounding areas clear
  • Assist with the safe storage, covering, and securing of materials, tools, and completed works
  • Help with the weekly stocktake of materials and fixings to maintain site efficiency
  • Contribute to daily site photos and site diary entries as directed

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Comply with all Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) legislation, site safety rules, and Virtue Projects' policies at all times
  • Wear appropriate PPE at all times on site
  • Report any safety hazards, incidents, or near-misses to the Site Foreman immediately
  • Actively participate in toolbox talks and safety briefings
  • Adhere to all building codes and relevant Australian Standards

Training & Development

  • Attend all scheduled TAFE/training college classes and complete coursework requirements for Certificate III in Carpentry
  • Actively engage with on-the-job training and mentoring from the Site Foreman
  • Maintain and present your training record/logbook as required
  • Seek feedback on your performance and take initiative to improve skills and knowledge
  • Demonstrate a proactive attitude toward learning new tasks and techniques

Professional Conduct

  • Arrive on time, ready to work, and maintain a positive and respectful attitude toward colleagues, trades, and clients
  • Communicate clearly and promptly with the Leading Hand regarding task progress and any issues encountered
  • Represent Virtue Projects professionally on site and in the surrounding neighbourhood
  • Take care of all company tools, equipment, and materials
