About the role:
This traineeship offers a unique opportunity to develop practical skills and gain hands-on experience. Your duties will include but not be limited to:
- Maintain and enhance gardens and other biodiversity sites, applying expert horticultural and conservation practices.
- Curate and care for living plant collections, including plant selection, ongoing maintenance, labelling, and inventory management.
- Assist with biodiversity programs such as weed control, revegetation, and habitat improvement to support local ecosystems.
- Engage positively with the community through guided tours, Friends group activities, and daily interactions with visitors.
- Safely operate and maintain gardening tools, minor machinery, and equipment, ensuring compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety policies.
- Undertake additional tasks as required to support the Coordinator of Urban Biodiversity and contribute to the overall quality of council gardens and biodiversity sites.
What we're looking for - Skills & Experience
- Interested in learning about botanical gardens and biodiversity conservation.
- Some knowledge of native and indigenous plants is a plus.
- Good communication skills to work with the public and Council staff.
- Enjoy maintaining gardens and green spaces, with basic computer skills and a willingness to complete a 24-month Certificate III traineeship.
