Employer: Unisys
Qualification: Certificate III or Cert IV in Information Technology

About Unisys

Unisys is a global information technology company that builds high-performance, security-centric solutions designed to make the world a better place. Their vision is simple: to enhance people's lives through secure, reliable, and advanced technology. At Unisys, they believe in better.

About the Role

As an IT Trainee, you will join the Unisys Service Desk team supporting government clients such as the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) and later the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).

You'll begin at the DHA site, where you'll receive structured training, hands-on experience, and support from dedicated mentors and team leads. Once your security clearance is upgraded, you'll transition into the DFAT environment, expanding your skills across new systems and support functions.

This is an exciting opportunity to gain exposure to multiple IT environments and build a strong foundation for a long-term career in technology.

Your Duties Will Include

  • Providing first-line technical support via phone and other media for hardware, software, and network issues.

  • Using diagnostic techniques to identify and resolve problems, escalating where necessary.

  • Recording and managing service tickets accurately.

  • Maintaining strong communication with clients to ensure issues are resolved efficiently.

  • Managing your workload to meet service targets.

  • Supporting internal projects and contributing to a positive team culture.

About You

We're looking for enthusiastic candidates who are:

  • Passionate about technology

  • Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
  • Known for their excellent customer service and ability to stay calm under pressure.

  • Australian Citizens (required for security clearance).

  • Able to pass a National Police Check and obtain a Baseline Security Clearance (mandatory for government site access)

What You'll Gain

  • A Certificate III in Information Technology

  • Study day provided each week to complete coursework (usually Fridays).
  • Exposure to high-security government environments (DHA and DFAT).

  • Experience working in structured support environments with clear progression pathways.

  • Opportunity to join Unisys' Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) working group, which drives community engagement and cultural awareness initiatives.

  • A supportive and inclusive workplace committed to developing First Nations talent.

  • Career progression opportunities into roles such as Field Services Technician, VIP/Ministerial Support, ITSM Reporting and Analytics, Project Management, or Cybersecurity.

Applicants for this role must be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent. The filling of this position is intended to constitute a special/equal opportunity measure under section 8(1) of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cth), section 27 of the Discrimination Act 1991 (ACT). Therefore, the position is only open to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander applicants.
