QMW Industries currently have an opportunity for the right person to undertake an apprenticeship as a Fitter / Machinist.

The successful candidate will complete a Certificate III in Engineering  - Mechanical Trade - Fitting / Machining (MEM30219).

As an apprentice at QMW you will work alongside experienced tradespeople to learn the skills required to become a qualified Fitter / Machinist, you will gain experience and be involved in:

  • Manual and CNC machine operation including machining centres, lathes, line borers etc.
  • Machining, fabricating, fitting parts and sub-assemblies to complete machines and equipment.
  • Complete pre-fits and fit outs of various products and components to a variety of vehicles, machines and equipment.
  • Checking fabricated and assembled metal parts for accuracy, clearance and fit using precision measuring instruments.
  • Stripping, assessing, repairing, assembling and testing mechanical and hydraulic components on mobile equipment and fixed plant in the earthmoving, mining and transport sectors.
  • Cutting, threading, bending, and installing hydraulic and pneumatic pipes and lines.
  • Performing routine maintenance and quality checks.

The successful candidate must demonstrate the following: 

  • A genuine desire to become a qualified engineering tradesperson.
  • Commitment to completing a 4-year apprenticeship.
  • Have a strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail. 
  • Self-motivation with a positive work ethic. 
  • Commitment to on and off the job training. 
  • A willingness to learn and work within a team environment. 
  • Strong commitment to Workplace Health and Safety.
