Trainee Dental Assistant
We are a local, family-orientated Dental Practice in the Wollongong CBD & also 2nd location 40min towards Sydney near Heathcote/Engadine. We can offer you a friendly, supportive and team focused work environment.
This position will provide the successful applicant with training and skills needed to assist a dentist, hands-on with patients, and practice reception. Previous dental experience not required.
You will receive traineeship wages due to supervision required. You will be getting hands-on experience (getting paid while you work towards a Certificate 3). We will enroll you in online TAFE course Certificate III in Dental Assisting, which you will obtain at the end of the year.
The Role
- One (to two) year traineeship in Dental Assisting, working towards Certificate III in Dental Assisting
- Looking for junior additional member of our team
- Full training provided - no experience required
- Assisting the Dentist
- Sterilisation, Cleaning & Disinfection of surgery
- Reception & Patient bookings
- Work shifts during the week + Saturdays
- Need to have own licence + car - need to be able to drive about 1-2 days a week to 2nd practice 40min near Heathcote/Engadine
Being a small practice, there will be periods of being busy, and quieter periods. You will be supported by the dentist, but expected to learn to work independently & confidently.
This is a fantastic opportunity to achieve a certificate while being paid (supervised trainee rate + paid book work hours). Others doing normal Certificate III in Dental Assisting without a traineeship would normally have to pay the course fees and work unpaid work experience hours at a practice they have to approach themselves. As part of a traineeship, you get paid while you study towards Cert 3!

- Recent school leavers preferred for our additional junior member of our team
- Able to work independently and learn quickly
- Excellent communication skills (verbal & written) - ability to develop rapport with everyone

- Motivated & focused
- Positive, can-do personality and able to take constructive criticism
- Have basic computer processing skills
- Able to work under pressure and quickly when needed
- Ideally full day availability Monday to Friday + Saturday as the position is part- to full-time - up to 38hr/wk - you will get a day off during the week if working on the Saturday
