Apprentice Marine Technician


Mariner Engineering is a leader in mobile yacht service across Melbourne. We pride ourselves on delivering the highest quality workmanship and premium experience for our customers.

We are a Volvo Penta and Yanmar dealership, specializing in inboard diesel marine engines. Over our 30-year history we have developed a highly skilled technical team and an excellent reputation in the industry. We now have a great opportunity for a motivated and well-presented first-year apprentice to join us.

What to expect

Our Spotswood location is the home base for the team, with a well-equipped service area and engineering workshop. Most jobs are completed off-site at marinas around Port Phillip Bay.

As marine specialists working across all types of hardware and applications, our technicians are comfortable with problem solving and unfamiliar situations. We work on a range of jobs from service to complete re-powers, covering engine, transmission and running gear on commercial vessels and pleasure craft.

Customer experience and high-quality workmanship are top priorities, so the team is always well-presented and prepared to communicate with customers. We work as a team on larger jobs, and have a high level of collaboration generally to share knowledge and ensure pest practices are followed.

What you’ll do

  • Support technicians testing and troubleshooting marine engines and electrical systems
  • Learn to perform service and repair on engines, transmissions and running gear
  • Learn to make professional documentation of service records and repairs

What you’ll bring

  • Working towards / interest in a trade qualification as a marine technician
  • Interested to develop a strong hands-on technical skill set
  • Curiosity to learn about boats and engines, and to develop problem solving skills
  • A detail oriented and proactive work ethic
  • Good verbal and written communication
  • Ability to work with the team, as well as independently on tasks
  • Tools of the trade
  • Current Victorian driver’s license is an advantage
