At least 10% of work carried out on Victoria’s major construction projects will be undertaken by apprentices, trainees or engineering cadets, thanks to the announcement of the State Government’s Major Project Skills Guarantee.

The Guarantee will involve minimum apprenticeship requirements for all government construction, infrastructure, civil engineering and capital projects valued at more than $20 million.

Construction companies bidding for projects under $20 million will also be encouraged to maximise their use of local apprentices, trainees and engineering cadets.

The aim of the Guarantee is to give young job-seekers and workers looking to re-skill, the experience and opportunities they need to kick-start their careers.
