On the road to recovery

The last thing any of us expects is to be injured at work. Unfortunately for 4th-year carpentry apprentice James, that’s exactly what happened when he suffered a back injury on the job in January 2016.

James’ injury has not just impacted his working life, but also his personal life. As well as needing time off work, James has not been able to enjoy his hobbies of kickboxing and dirt biking and won’t be able to until he has made a full recovery.

Since January, James has received advice from his doctor and permission to perform modified duties in and around the office at work, as well as further treatment options to help his recovery.

As James is employed with MEGT and working for a Host Employer, our team have been able to support both James and his workplace during this time. When you become a Host Employer with MEGT, our group training team can provide assistance with WorkCover administration, return to work plans, job safety inspections and referral to other support services if required.

James says that although it hasn’t been easy dealing with his injury, “the people at MEGT have been very helpful and responsive to my situation, getting me back on track and working on a return to work plan.” James’ goal now is to stay focused and get back to his pre-injury duties, become a qualified carpenter and get back to normal life.

We wish James all the best in his recovery.
