The NSW Training Awards are conducted annually by the NSW Department of Education and Communities (DEC) to recognise outstanding achievement in the vocational education and training sector.
Trainee of the Year category
Sharon Simonetta, HR Administrator at Groupon and MEGT trainee
Sharon is undertaking the Cert IV in Business. Her trainer, Sashi Chander, put her forward for the awards because of her hard work, mature approach and attitude to her studies, making her a great role model for others considering vocational training.
Sharon says, “ The Cert IV in Business fully compliments my current HR role. My ambition down the track is to run my own fashion business and my HR experience and business qualifications will help me ultimately realise that ambition.”
Ashleigh Phillips, HR Recruiter, RMS and MEGT trainee
A home grown success! Now working within RMS, Ashleigh started as a business trainee with MEGT Recruitment Management Services. Amy Foltran, Ashleigh’s manager, says “I have complete confidence in Ashleigh’s ability to manage candidates and clients and her problem solving skills. She is proving herself an asset to the business.”
Apprentice of the Year category
Brodie Oakes , MEGT Apprentice at Qenos
Going into his training straight from school, Brodie is currently working as a fourth year apprentice in mechanical engineering at Qenos. He has already developed an innovative solution to a plastics loading system, which won him the 2014 Qenos Environmental Award.
His employer has regularly provided glowing feedback and stated, “We recognise that Brodie has developed strong leadership skills and will be an asset to our organisation in the long term.”
Brodie says that, “The mentoring and coaching I have received on the job has been a great support”.
Join us in wishing our three finalists good luck. Regional winners go through to the state and then national finals in September. Awards results will be announced tonight – stay tuned.
