Young carers may be eligible for a grant of $3,000 to help continue their education, thanks to the Carers Australia Young Carers Bursary Programme.
If you are aged between 12 to 25 and you’re helping to care for a family member who has an illness, a disability, a mental health issue, an alcohol or other drug problem, or who are aged, you may be eligible for financial assistance through the program.
The program was developed to help relieve the financial pressure on young carers as they undertake part-time employment, in addition to managing their education and their responsibilities as a carer. The bursary is not a loan and does not need to be repaid.
The grant can be used towards approved secondary and tertiary education courses, as well as approved vocational education courses, including apprenticeships.
Applications for the Young Carers Bursary Programme open 2 August 2016 and close 14 September 2016. To find out more about the program or whether you are eligible to apply, click here.
