More job opportunities for Victorians
The Vocational Training and Employment Centre (VTEC)
The VTEC initiative was established by the Australian Government to provide employment for up to 5,000 indigenous trainees nationwide.
Our goal is to place at least 250 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people into employment in the greater Melbourne region. Through VTEC, we provide pre-employment training and workplace mentoring for employers and trainees to give each of our trainees the best opportunity to transition into ongoing employment.
To achieve this goal, our VTEC team work in partnership with major Australian Employment Covenant (AEC) employers, GenerationOne and the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet.
How we can help
VTEC aligns pre-employment training with real jobs, to create more opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strat Islander peoples.
We do this by collaborating with employers, employment and training service providers, and our local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
- We liaise closely with the AEC employers to fill their vacancies
- We then connect with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples living in Victoria and invite them to apply for vacancies
- We provide pre-employment training, workplace mentoring and training support to both the employee and employer to ensure each of our trainees succeed in their studies and transitions into ongoing employment at the end of their traineeship
VTEC is funded by the Australian government and is based on the GenerationOne employment model.
