MEGT Mentoring services for employers, apprentices or trainees
MEGT has led the way with mentoring programs. Mentoring services are available to employers, apprentices and trainees through:
- MEGT Recruitment & Management Services, where we provide mentoring services as part of our full suite of services for employers and their staff. MEGT Mentoring is part of the MEGT group training
- Australian Apprenticeship Support Network In-training services, which are designed to help apprentices and trainees get qualified. Mentoring is part of this service and is available to those identified by MEGT Apprenticeship Network Provider as needing assistance to complete an apprenticeship or traineeship.
What support is provided?
MEGT mentors are trained to assist where appropriate and connect the apprentice or employer to specialist help if needed. It’s personal. It’s confidential. The focus of support is to help apprentices and employers deal with issues that may be a contributing reason to them not completing an Apprenticeship and getting qualified.
MEGT Mentoring Services
MEGT group training employs the apprentice or trainee and places them with a host employer.
The MEGT Consultant regularly connects with the apprentice or trainee – and their workplace supervisor – throughout the full period of their Australian Apprenticeship and is their advisor, mentor and provides pastoral care.
MEGT employs over 900 apprentices and trainees and includes mentoring in this full service option. There are no restrictions on trade, industry or experience to receive this mentoring support because it is an integral part of the service.
This mentoring service comprises:
- pre-employment induction to ensure they are work-ready
- regular site visits and communication to ensure they are safe in the workplace
- regular communication (face to face on site and by phone) to support them in handling challenges that may affect their work, their training and the completion of their apprenticeship or traineeship
- optional training sessions for Supervisors which will cover the key focus areas of being a good apprentice supervisoron and off the job training progress
- where required – professional counseling to assist in transitioning an apprentice into the workforce
- 24 hour assistance through the MEGT Employee Assistance Program: a confidential personal and professional development resource available to all employees and their immediate families.

Once an apprentice and employer have signed a Training Contract for an apprenticeship or traineeship, eligibility assessment for In-training services can be completed.
In-training services can assist with advice and information, referral to specialist services, and access to specialist mentors. Where required, a mentor will complete a risk assessment and document a ‘Stay at Work Plan’ for the apprentice.
MEGT and/or your mentor will keep in contact with useful information in person or on the phone, monitoring the apprentice’s progress and assisting in keeping them on track to get qualified.
In-training Services Eligibility
In-training mentoring services are free and are available to Australian Apprentices who meet the following criteria:
- Undertaking a qualification in a National Skills Needs List (NSNL) occupation: and
- aged under 30 years; or
- identified group with access to these services; Individuals from disadvantaged groups, such as Indigenous Australians, people with disability or individuals from a Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) background; or
- enrolled in an Australian School-based Apprenticeship; or
- individuals or Employers who have participated in Gateway services.

MEGT has been involved with the employment and training of Indigenous apprentices and trainees for more than 10 years.
MEGT’s Indigenous Apprenticeship and Traineeship Network (IATN) provides sustainable employment opportunities through the Group Training model for Indigenous people across all communities in Australia. This operational model provides culturally appropriate mentoring and support for both the employer and the Indigenous apprentice or trainee.
Since the inception of IATN, 197 trainees and apprentices have commenced with approximately 70% successfully completing their qualification.
