Award-winning pies and vanilla slices have put The Elmore Bakery on the map in the past year.

Now the bakery, located in North-East Victoria, can add award-winning staff to its list of achievements after winning two accolades at the recent Bendigo Business Excellence Awards.

Long-serving employee Maree Laux was named Employee of the Year and MEGT apprentice Linette Moore received the award for Trainee or Apprentice of the Year. The Elmore Bakery co-owner Nathan Bowes was thrilled by their success.

“It is good for two of our staff to get a mention because without good staff we don’t actually have a business,” he said. “They both put in a tremendous amount of work to make the bakery what it is.”

Maree is a valued member of staff who has been with the business for about 15 years, while second-year apprentice Linette was integral to the bakery’s success in the Merbein Great Australian Vanilla Slice Triumph last year. The then-first year apprentice won second prize in the Apprentice Vanilla Slice category with her traditional vanilla slice.

Nathan said winning Apprentice of the Year was also a great confidence boost for Linette, who has dyslexia.

“It shows she can do these things regardless of a learning disability,” he said.

He noted that the awards were also a win for the Elmore community as the more the business wins, the more it attracts visitors to the bakery and to the town. Nathan’s next goal for the bakery is to win another pie contest.

Congratulations to Maree, Linette and all the team at Elmore Bakery and here’s to many more future wins!
