On Friday 26 May, 19 MEGT Institute students graduated from the SPARK West Belconnen Administration Pre-Employment Program.* Over 55 people attended the graduation held in the ACT, including MEGT Institute, Ginninderry and Canberra City Centre staff, graduates’ family members, ACT Skills Canberra and business community stakeholders.
An initiative that proudly supports engagement, training and employment pathways for local people, the SPARK program is run by Ginninderry in collaboration with MEGT Institute and Canberra City Care. The program offers an opportunity for locals to obtain a nationally accredited qualification while also developing new skills and gaining hands-on work experience.
Graduates of the SPARK program gained a BSB20115 Certificate II in Business delivered by MEGT Institute. Throughout the program, participants undertook industry-specific training within the business administration sector through simulated work environments and community projects.
Other skills and knowledge gained throughout the program included communication skills, customer service, Microsoft applications (including processing documents, spreadsheets and presentations), work health and safety and first aid. Participants also had the opportunity to apply these new skills straight away by undertaking work experience with various businesses in the local community.
The program also opens up various employment pathways for graduates who now have the fundamental skills needed to obtain an entry-level administration role, or to undertake a traineeship.
SPARK has proven to be a great investment not only for the graduates but also for the Belconnen community with local businesses benefiting from our graduates’ new workplace skills as they transition into employment.
The graduation celebrated the participants’ journeys, learning and achievements. Throughout the course of this program, MEGT Institute’s trainers have seen our graduates transform, gaining more self-confidence and working well together as a group.
