Karen Bakker has recently achieved two milestones – her first ever flight and first opportunity to present at a national conference.

Having worked for the past 10 years as a food services worker, Karen says she enjoyed the contact she had with patients, but had always wanted to do more to support the nurses.

In December 2013 MEGT Consultant, Melina Cadman, helped Karen successfully gain a one-year apprenticeship to train as a Health Assistant in Nursing, which she commenced in February 2014.

Karen has now completed her Certificate III in Health Services Assistant (Nursing) and loves her new role. She recently attended the National Assistants in Nursing Conference in Sydney, where she presented with the Project Manager. Karen spoke about her work, the challenges and rewards and was asked questions by the audience from across the country.

It was a double achievement for Karen, who completed her first public speaking engagement and first ever flight.

We wish her every success.
