End of term is approaching! Tips to get the most out of term break.

With the end of term approaching, it can be easy for students to start dreaming about lazy days and Netflix binges and to forget all about their holiday homework or their job hunting plans.

Unfortunately, all the daydreaming in the world isn’t going to make the serious stuff go away. That’s why we’ve compiled the following tips to share with your students so they can make the most of their break AND have time to relax.

Firstly, it’s called school holidays for a reason.

Schools give students time off for a reason – to have a break, unwind, and just chill. So our first tip for staying on track this school holidays is to make sure you take some time to do the things you like.

Taking a break from your study isn’t going to be the end of the world. In fact, by taking care of your mental health, you’re actually going to be far more effective when you get back to hitting the books.

Pro tip: spread your relaxing time over the whole term break.

If you try to spend the first week of your break relaxing, your homework will be weighing on your mind, making it impossible to truly enjoy your time off. It also means you’ll need to do all your work in the last few days of holidays – not how you want to spend the last days before term, and not the kind of pressure you need while you’re on break!

Our advice? Spend the first couple of days getting stuck into your homework. Your brain is still in study mode, which will make things easier, and knowing you can relax once your work is done is a great motivator. If you’re planning to look for work these holidays, this is also a good time to schedule this in.

After that, take a couple of days to unwind, spend a couple more days on homework or job hunting, then give yourself the last few days of holidays to chill. You’ll be starting next term refreshed and on top of your school work. Winning combination!

Secondly, time management! Time management! Time management!

I know, it sounds boring. But time management really is the key to making the most out of your term break.

When you try to look at everything that needs to be done as one big task it can be overwhelming. By breaking your workload down into smaller chunks, it will seem far more manageable and far less stressful!

Our advice: write a to-do list and give everything a timeframe.

To-do lists are the easiest way to keep track of what you need to get done. Bonus – they’re really simple to put together and ticking things off when you’re done is very satisfying!

Go through each of your subjects and list everything that needs to be done, then add in the fun stuff you want to do while on break. If you’re planning to spend part of your holiday time job hunting, add this in there as well.

Write everything down, then decide how much time each of your tasks are going to need – including the relaxing stuff. Lastly, put all your tasks in order of most important to least, giving yourself time every few days to unwind.

That’s it!

You’ve made sure you have time for homework, time to chill, time to look at your job options AND you have a to-do list to keep you on track and to stop it all getting too overwhelming.

You’re now ready to make the most out of this school holidays and stay on top of your school work!
