Changes to Support for Adult Australian Apprentices Payments
Effective 1 July 2015
On Monday 15 December 2014 the Treasurer, the Hon. Joe Hockey MP and Senator the Hon. Mathias Cormann, Minister for Finance, delivered the Mid-Year Economic and Fiscal Outlook (MYEFO). As part of MYEFO, changes to payments for Australian Apprentices under the Australian Apprenticeships Incentives Programme were announced.
The apprentice payment of Support for Adult Australian Apprentices (SAAA) will cease from 1 July 2015. Any payments that fall due on or before 30 June 2015 will still be paid. Payments with a due date from 1 July 2015 onwards will not be paid.
All Australian Apprentices previously assessed as eligible to receive SAAA payments are affected by this change. SAAA payments will still be paid to the employer where the Australian Apprentice is identified as being paid above the National Minimum Wage.
Eligible employers will continue to receive a one-off payment of $4,000 payable 12 months from the date of commencement (for both eligible full-time and part-time Australian Apprenticeships).
