As a not-for-profit organisation, managing diversity constructively and helping to address disadvantage is an ongoing priority for MEGT. The reach of our response is broad, ranging from communities to our own employees, whilst at the same time being focused, in that our priority areas for the next few years include Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people with disabilities, and gender-related issues.
MEGT has been helping to address disadvantage and inequity in Australia’s communities since 1982.
In the last 30-plus years we have been involved in a range of initiatives including:
- Encouraging females to take up apprenticeships in non-traditional trades
- working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to provide training and employment opportunities
- employing staff with disability
- managing a training centre on behalf of the Indigenous Land Corporation
- piloting a course providing work-ready and entry level skills to people with intellectual disability.
MEGT is committed to increasing the diversity of our workforce. That means respecting individual differences – age, ability, accent, appearance, family responsibilities, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, etc. – and using those differences to strengthen our business.

We are committed to developing sustainable and ongoing apprentice and trainee opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, as well as culturally aware support for employers. We offer quality services in a safe environment that fosters equality, diversity and unity for all. MEGT has an approved Reconciliation Action Plan setting out a range of activities and commitments.

- MEGT is an active member of the Australian Network on Disability (AND).
- MEGT has a 12-month agreement with the National Disability Recruitment Coordinator (NDRC) who are helping us to increase the number of corporate staff we employ with disability.

- MEGT is compliant with gender reporting under the Workplace Gender Equality Act. Selected staff have recently completed specialised training with the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) to support our gender equality strategy.
- We have a trained national network of Equal Opportunity Contact Officers to support our goals of effectively managing diversity and behaviours so our workplaces are safe and inclusive.
