Brandon finds a sure way forward

9 November, 2017

At 22, Brandon Allen was a long-term unemployed jobseeker working to overcome many personal issues so that he could gain employment.

After registering with Sureway Employment in Echuca and working with Sureway staff, Scott and Debbie, he started to get on top of his situation and to think about the next steps for both his personal and his working life.

With the guidance and passion of the Sureway team, Brandon was offered an amazing opportunity to do a retail industry internship with Bite Me Deli in Echuca. Soon after Brandon started his new role, Scott Thompson, Employer Relationship Coordinator for Sureway Echuca, asked local MEGT Echuca consultant, Mahir Ozdilek, to meet with him and Brandon’s employer, Kate Cunningham, to talk about the possibility of signing Brandon into a formal retail traineeship.

Once Mahir had explained the traineeship process, the role MEGT would play in supporting Brandon and his employer, and the benefits to the company of signing Brandon up as a trainee, Kate agreed to provide this opportunity to Brandon. On 28 August, after overcoming long-term unemployment and numerous personal issues, Brandon was signed into a Certificate III in Retail traineeship.

Brandon says he now feels very motivated and enthusiastic about his future and can’t wait to gain experience in food preparation, cooking and retail. He was very appreciative that Scott and Debbie at Sureway Echuca believed in him and helped him get on the right career path, and is extremely grateful for the training and employment opportunity he now has as a trainee.
