About Group Training
Group Training is one of the best kept secrets of apprenticeships and traineeships.
It is a way an employer can enjoy the benefits of apprentices and trainees through a labour on-hire type mechanism.
In the 1980's employers told the Australian government they wanted - and indeed needed - to employ apprentices but were not sure they had enough work to sustain them for the full period of a four year apprenticeship. To solve the problem, the Australian government put in place an amazingly innovative scheme called Group Training whereby the Group Training Organisation became the employer, and placed the apprentice with one or a variety of 'host' employers.
It became a solid safety net for both the employer and the apprentice and a few years later, was extended to include traineeships.
The MEGT Group Training Organisation employs Australian Apprentices and hires or leases them out to different businesses on a short or long-term basis.
Because we take on the contractual and administrative responsibilities of the employer (the payment of wages and superannuation for example), and also participate in the recruitment of Australian Apprentices, the employer burden rests with us.
We provide this 'hassle free' service across more than 33 industry sectors.
